I have this strange appreciation for riding in the black hat darkness on a lonely, rural road in the wee hours before dawn. When your vision is limited to the narrow tunnel of a single headlight and you can only guess if the road runs through mountains, fields or cliffs your imagination creates images of the worst kinds of monsters ready to jump out at you (deer!). Add near-freezing temperatures, rain and a stuttering engine and you have the makings of a first class “he never returned” story. And then the euphoria of first light!
